Jay Blades, host of the BBC series *The Repair Shop*, has been charged with controlling and coercive behavior against his wife. The presenter faces one charge and appeared at Kidderminster Magistrates' Court on Friday.

Following the news, the BBC removed a repeat of the program *David & Jay’s Touring Toolshed*, featuring Blades alongside actor David Jason, from Friday's BBC One schedule. A BBC spokesperson stated, "It would not be appropriate to comment on ongoing legal proceedings."

Blades has also resigned as Chancellor of Buckinghamshire New University with immediate effect, according to the institution.

West Mercia Police stated that an investigation was launched after receiving a call on 3 May. In a statement, the force said, "Fifty-four-year-old Jason Blades, of Claverley in Wolverhampton, has been charged with controlling and coercive behavior. He appeared at Kidderminster Magistrates' Court this morning (Friday, 13 September) and has been bailed to appear at Worcester Crown Court on Friday, 11 October."

Jay Blades became one of the most recognizable faces on British television following the launch of *The Repair Shop* in 2017, where members of the public bring their cherished possessions and heirlooms for restoration. Initially aired in a daytime slot, the show moved to primetime after gaining popularity.

In 2023, *The Repair Shop* won a National Television Award and a BAFTA for its royal special, featuring the future King bringing a clock and a vase to the workshop. Blades' most recent appearance on the show was on Wednesday.

Aside from *The Repair Shop*, he has also hosted shows like *Money for Nothing*, *Jay Blades' Home Fix*, and *Jay and Dom's Home Fix*. He was awarded an MBE in 2021.

Shortly after receiving the MBE, filming for the new series of *The Repair Shop* began without him, as Blades announced he was taking a break to "take stock" following the murder of his uncle.
