At New York's Madison Square Garden last week, Donald Trump stirred controversy by referring to Puerto Rico as "floating garbage," a comment that was widely criticized as a “gift” to Kamala Harris. Though Trump didn’t make the comment directly, Puerto Ricans in Pennsylvania were furious during his campaign rally. Before the uproar had even settled, Trump offered Kamala another “gift.”

At a rally in Wisconsin on Wednesday, Trump declared that he would protect women, "whether they liked it or not." He admitted his advisers warned him that such statements might be inappropriate and better left unsaid. Yet, he insisted, "But I'm the president, and I want to protect the women of this country. I will keep them safe, whether they want it or not."

Trump’s complicated history with women is well-known. Married three times, he became involved with other women even while married. When his third wife, Melania, had just given birth, Trump faced scandal for reportedly engaging in an affair with a public figure. During the 2016 election, a leaked video captured him boasting about using his status to pursue women.
