PlayStation Network Outage Frustrates Gamers Worldwide
The PlayStation Network (PSN) has been experiencing a prolonged outage since Friday evening, leaving gamers unable to access online services.
According to Sony's PSN status page, key features such as account management, gaming and social services, PlayStation Video, the PlayStation Store, and the PlayStation Direct website have all been affected.
The outage has disrupted online gameplay for titles like Fortnite, Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto, and Marvel Rivals, while also causing issues with license verification for offline single-player games.
PlayStation acknowledged the issue on its support webpage, stating that it is actively working on a resolution.
Reports from DownDetector indicate the problem began just before midnight on Friday, with more than 71,000 users logging complaints. Gamers worldwide continue to report issues, flooding PlayStation's support channels with frustrations.
Jeff Thigpen, a 48-year-old gamer from Dallas, Texas, shared his frustration after being locked out of PSN for 10 hours.
"At work, I take breaks using my PlayStation Portal, but tonight I couldn't access any of my purchased games," he told the BBC. "Paying a monthly fee for the service is one thing, but not being able to play games we've already bought is beyond frustrating."
Connor Clarke, who runs the Sheffield Games Collective, noted that the timing of the outage has made matters worse.
"This weekend is huge for gaming," he said. "There's a free beta for Monster Hunter Wilds and a double XP event in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. Many gamers, possibly millions, are frustrated that they can't play."
Clarke added that while PSN outages typically last only a few hours, this one has now stretched beyond 12.
"It's incredibly frustrating. I can't play multiplayer, and worse, I can't even access my downloaded single-player games because PlayStation can't verify my licenses."
BBC News has reached out to both PlayStation and Call of Duty developer Activision Blizzard for comment.
